Protection
We
live in a dangerous world!
No matter where you live, danger is
there. That's because the devil is still on the loose. Remember, Satan came to
steal, kill, and destroy. He is the master terrorist - the author of fear.
But, Jesus came that we might have
life, and have it more abundantly. And that life includes safety and protection
from all evil. God's Word abounds with promises of protection in the midst of
danger.
July 3rd, 1995
Let's start with a personal testimony
of God's protection...
On July 3rd, 1995, I drove to
Indianapolis for a meeting. The drive lasts about 3 hours. I spent the whole
time praying in the Spirit, as I often do. On the drive back, I also prayed, for
a little over two hours.
Our town's 4th of July fireworks show
was that night. To avoid traffic and parking problems, we decided to walk to the
park. Our two older children road in a wagon that had two sections. Like a car
with a trailer. I pulled the wagon (and kids!). My wife carried our three month
old daughter, while pushing the stroller. We waited at the town's busiest
intersection for the walk sign. While waiting, I decided to recite Psalm 91:
"I who dwell in the shelter of the almighty shall abide under the shadow of
the almighty. I will say of the Lord "You are my refuge and my fortress, my
God, in whom I trust."... no harm will befall me, no disaster will come
near my tent.
The walk sign went on, and we started
to cross the street. I was about 2/3 across, when a car at the intersection
zoomed out to turn - right at my family. The driver could not see the kids in
the wagon, and must have assumed she could go between my wife and I. But she was
wrong - she was headed right at the children.
I turned back and saw the car start. I
wasn't scared. I didn't react. I had peace from God. The prayer I just uttered
saved my family. The car stopped suddenly, as if the driver slammed on the
brakes. Or the angels protecting us stopped the car supernaturally.
The women in the car were visibly
upset. We weren't upset in the least. The kids never even new there was any
danger. My wife saw the whole incident, and simply waited until she could
continue across the road.
God says "Because he loves me,
I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name."
Through the Forest
Preserve
I frequently drove through a forest
preserve. On three of four occasions, I started to pray in the Spirit while in
this area. Within a few seconds, one or more dear darted out from the forest and
towards the road. In each case, the dear stopped short of the road, turned
around, and went back into the forest. No accidents occurred.
In the Community
We recently went shopping. On the way
back, I was praying in the Spirit. (As you can tell, I pray often while in the
car.) I had an image of something moving quickly. I took it as God's blessings
coming upon us that quick. I needed to seek more light on this, because, based
on what happened shortly after this, I missed the message.
We stopped at an intersection close to
our home. A car crossed the intersection just in front of us. (The something
moving quickly.) Just then, a young boy on his bike started across the street.
The driver of the car could not see the boy until he was directly in front of
her. She hit the brakes, but was unable to stop fast enough. Her car hit the
boy.
I immediately ran out. As I headed
towards the boy, a police car approach. I flagged him down. At the same time,
another man went to the boy. This man was an emergency medical technician. The
police officer arrived within 30 seconds of the accident. He called in another
officer.
The boy suffered scrapes on his face.
He was able to get up and walk. There were no apparent injuries to his bones. I
reached out and touched the boy and prayed in the Spirit. After the second
officer arrived, I returned to my car, and drove home.
Later I talked with my wife about the
accident. I related the Spirit's leading and how I had missed the meaning. My
wife responded by asking me if I remembered saying "Jesus, Jesus" as
the accident occurred. I did not. I had no recollection of it. I didn't think
that I said Jesus.
Even though the accident occurred, we
believe that God had prevented serious injury, and provided assistance to the
boy. Consider the "random" events:
An EMT was at the intersection.
A policeman was driving towards the
intersection, and a second policeman was only blocks away.
Believers (my wife and I) were at the
intersection, praying.
God Wants You Safe
God wants us to be safe from every
evil and terror. Study the scriptures on the sidebar. Confess them every day.
Plead the blood of Jesus over your family, community, school, workplace. Use the
Name of Jesus. God gave us the Word, the Blood, and the Name to keep us safe.
