Jesus - Author
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith,
who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat
down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such
opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
Hebrews 12:2-3 (NIV)
Looking away [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader
and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is
also its Finisher, [bringing it to maturity and perfection]. He, for the joy [of
obtaining the prize] that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising and
ignoring the shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2-3 (AMP)
In the lesson Faith In, we learned to have faith in Jesus. Jesus was the
perfect example of the faith life. Jesus lived in obedience to the Father.
Jesus is also the author of our faith. Jesus is the source of our faith. Like
the author of a novel, Jesus has our faith life planned out. We're not left to
our own in living by faith. Jesus is our leader.
Our selection from God's Word starts with a key action for success in faith:
fix our eyes on Jesus. The Amplified Bible says we must look away from the
things that distract us, and look to Jesus. There are two parts. The things that
distract us are the things of the world, the cravings and desires of the flesh.
However, when we fix our eyes on Jesus, we can't have our eyes on the world.
They're fixed, immovable.
Our eyes are fixed on Jesus - Jesus the author, source, and leader of our
faith. When believing is hard, confidence sagging, and trust ebbing, we fix on
Jesus, the source for our faith. We fix on Jesus, the author of our faith, and
we fix on Jesus, the leader of our faith.
Jesus looked beyond the cross to the victory. We look beyond the problem to
the victory. We fix on Jesus - the developer and finisher of our faith.
